Intayon Ilocos Sur Festival: A Celebration of Culture and History


 

   
Ilocos Sur, a province in northern Luzon, is rich in culture, and history. Annually, the "Intayon Ilocos Sur Festival" is celebrated, a week-long festivity that features the abundance of their heritage. This festival is not It's an invitation for everyone to witness and experiencenthe unique beauty and vibrancy of Ilocos Sur. From colorful parades to cultural shows, every activity reflects the identity and pride of the Ilocanos.
 

    One of the main attractions of the Intayon Ilocos Sur Festival is the street dancing competitions featuring local residents who display their talent in dance and music, dressed in their traditional attire. Furthermore, there are also trade fairs where local products and delicacies of the province, such as Vigan longganisa, empanada, and bagnet, are sold. These activitiess not only provide an avenue to celebrate their culture but also to promote local economy and tourism.
 
    This celebration also serves as a way to rekindle the rich history of Ilocos Sur, particularly Vigan City, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The old stone houses and cobblestone streets transport us back to the Spanish era, a remainder of the past that continueos to shape the present. Through the Intayon Ilocos Sur Festival, the appreciation for their traditions and history is continuously passed on to the next generation, strengthening their identity as Ilokanos.
