The Internet as a Double Edge Sword

The Internet as a Double Edge Sword

"The internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow," according to Bill Gates.

This quarter, we as a class tackled the origin which includes the timeline, important pioneers, and other crucial details regarding the internet. Going back in time, delving on the history of th internet and how it evolved was an upright experience. Tracing back to APANET to the World Wide Web we so deeply rely on today, personnels like William Torres as the "Father of Philippine Internet", web blogs and many more are examples of what I have learned in ICT 10 this first quarter.

Navarria, G. (2016, November 2). How the Internet was born: from the ARPANET to the Internet. https://theconversation.com/how-the-internet-was-born-from-the-arpanet-to-the-internet-68072

Apart from that, I've also learned that there is power in influence. The ability of influence resides not just to persuade but to alter and sculpt the very narrative of one's consciousness. Pivotal figures of the Internet were inspired by each other to create and innovate something for the betterment of man kind. An example is like how Long-Distance Computing was the original inspiration for ARPANET. The creation of one influenced/inspire another to mold something possibly better or worse. Influence has an insidious nature, subtle yet it has the potential of redefining "reality".

One of the challenges I faced was reviewing the large content of the materials given. An example of this would be the timeline of the internet, each year had its own, seemingly great amount of description. For me this made it difficult to review. I couldn't focus due to my confusion on which specific detail to concentrate on for the given years. Another trial was understanding some of the topics when Maam Evelyn was away on seminar. During this week, we were task to report different discussions regarding the internet. The presentations were fast phased, leaving little to no room for further clarifications and understanding.

To "fix" this dilemma, i decided to do my own research and basically self study. I practiced active recall which is calling back or trying to remember the important details maam have pointed out. In relation, listening attentively definitely helped. Another tool that assist me in reviewing was taking notes, for me this usually includes summarizing, writing down only the key details, and highlight crucial information.

Moving on, I will continue to continue implementing these factors that succor me in studying and to explore more ways on how to efficiently study the contents of ICT 10. I plan to study diligently, bearing in mind past lessons and reflecting on decisions that could affect my performance in this subject. To be mindful that the internet is a double edge sword, using its capabilities for good not to shatter one's image, a generosity with a complementary responsibility.
